To combat the negative effects of the Coronavirus on individuals, companies, and the economy, the government with the parties supporting the government, have agreed on making temporary changes to the a-kassa system of unemployment benefits.

These changes are temporary until the end of 2020. We will be updating the following as more information becomes available.

If you lose your job, you are expected to apply for jobs in those industries that are currently hiring, and to go back to work once the job market recovers.

Temporary requirements

Those who meet both requirements 1 and 2, are eligible for income related unemployment benefit:

  1. The work requirement (arbets-villkor): 6 months work, with at least 60 hours worked per calendar month. Date of implementation currently unknown.
  2. The membership requirement (medlems-villkor): 3 months' membership. Date of implementation 1st of March 2020.

The benefits

The maximum income related benefit for the first 100 days will be 1 200 SEK before tax. To achieve this, you must have earned an average of 33 000 SEK per month during the last 12 months. If you have earned less, you will receive 80% of your average income.

Due to be implemented April 13th 2020.

The maximum basic benefit (grundbelopp) will be 510 SEK per day before tax. To achieve 510 SEK, you will need to have worked full time for a whole year. If you have worked full-time for 6 months, you would get half, 255 SEK.

Due to be implemented April 13th 2020.

Waiting period

Those who lose their jobs (do not leave on their own accord) will receive unemployment benefits from day 1, instead of day 7.

Due to be implemented from March 30th 2020.
