Benefit period

A benefit period from the a-kassa covers 300 days and always begins with two waiting days, during which you do not receive any benefits.
You can receive benefits for a maximum of five days per week. If you have children under the age of 18, the period is automatically extended by an additional 150 days. If you interrupt your benefit period, you can continue the same period as long as you apply for benefits again within one year.

Decision before 1 October 2025

This information applies to you if you received a decision on benefits before 1 October 2025.

Always two waiting days

  • The mandatory waiting period for everyone receiving unemployment benefits is 2 days.

  • Once the waiting period is completed, the benefit period of 300 days begins. The 2 days are not deducted from the benefit period.

  • To have the waiting days counted, you must submit your time report in Mina sidor.

  • The waiting period must be completed within a twelve-month period.

300 days, max 5 days per week

  • A benefit period consists of 300 benefit days.

  • If you are unemployed full-time, a benefit period lasts approximately fourteen months.

  • You can receive a maximum of five benefit days per week.

  • Days for which you receive benefits are deducted from the period.

  • Days for which you do not receive benefits are not deducted from the period, for example if you are working, sick, on parental leave, or indicate that you are not available for work.

Interruption in compensation. Same period or new?

  • If you have an interruption in your unemployment that is shorter than twelve months, you continue on the same compensation period that you previously started. You then upload certificates of what you have done since you last received compensation.

  • If the interruption from compensation is longer than twelve months, it is the reason for the interruption that determines whether you can continue on the same period or not. To be allowed to continue on the same period, the interruption must consist of disregarded time, for example illness or parental leave.

60 weeks if you work

If you combine benefits and work, you are entitled to benefits for the time you are unemployed per week. You are entitled to combine work and unemployment benefits for 60 weeks.

150+ if you have children

If you are unemployed and have an ongoing benefit period approved before October 1, this rule applies to you. If you have children under the age of 18, you receive 150 extra days when the 300 days are used up. The period is automatically extended when 300 days have been paid out, and you do not need to submit anything. It does not matter if the child turns 18 during the extension.

If your days run out

When there are 50 days left in the period, we assess whether you have met a new work requirement so that you can receive a new benefit period. If not, you can participate in the Job and Development Guarantee and receive benefits from Försäkringskassan. It is important that you remain a member with us, otherwise the benefit amount will be reduced.
