Income insurance through your union
As a member, you can take out additional income insurance through your union and receive up to 80 % of your full income if you become unemployed. The union also offers support with your CV, salary statistics, and career guidance. We collaborate with the Saco unions and the Swedish Association of Health Professionals – but you can join Akademikernas a-kassa no matter which union you belong to. It’s your education that matters.
Income insurance only applies with unemployment fund membership
The unemployment insurance fund is the foundation for your union income insurance to be valid. Without membership in the fund, you cannot receive any compensation from the additional income insurance. And without a union, you have no income insurance at all. Together, the unemployment fund and the union provide the strongest protection in case of unemployment.

No Saco union required
Are you a member of a union other than the Saco federations or the Swedish Association of Health Professionals (Vårdförbundet)? Your income insurance is usually still valid – but check with your union just to be sure.

*Maximum benefits from the unemployment insurance fund (a-kassa) is 80 percent of 33,000 SEK before tax during the first 100 days. After that, the benefits is reduced.
**Amounts before tax
Being a member of an unemployment insurance fund costs 140 SEK per month. Union membership fees vary. The unions also have different conditions regarding compensation levels and the length of the compensation period.
