Compensation
When you become unemployed, many practical questions arise — how to apply for compensation, how much money you will receive during your period without work, and what rules you need to follow. This guide walks you through the process of applying and reporting activities and any income during your unemployment.

Your compensation is based on income
Unemployment insurance provides financial security when you lose your job. The amount of compensation you may receive depends both on your previous earnings and your monthly income during unemployment. These earnings are viewed as a measure of how much you've worked and how much work you've lost.
Additionally, the length of your membership affects your compensation level. A membership of 12 months or longer can entitle you to a compensation rate of 80 %, with a maximum of SEK 27,200 per month before tax.
To qualify for the highest compensation, your average income before unemployment must be SEK 34,000 or more.
Rules and termsFive steps – how to apply
Get started with your compensation by following our 5 simple steps. The sooner we receive all the information, the sooner you’ll get your decision and your money.
-
1. Register with Arbetsförmedlingen
Register with Arbetsförmedlingen on the first day you are unemployed. You do this at arbetsformedlingen.se..
-
2. Log in and apply for compensation
Log in to Mina sidor on our website and submit your application. Once you provide your information, you’ll receive a personalized to-do list showing which details you need to complete. One of our case officers will then review your application, and if any information is missing, we’ll contact you.
-
3. Register your bank account
Register your bank account to have your compensation deposited directly into the account of your choice. This way, you avoid receiving a payment notice that costs money to redeem. You register your account with Swedbank’s account register.
-
4. Submit your monthly application
Submit your monthly application as soon as you have all your income details. The earliest you can receive your first payment is on the Thursday of the week following your compensation decision. Compensation is then paid every fourth Thursday of the month. Submit your monthly application no later than the 14th.
-
5. Submit your activity report to Arbetsförmedlingen
You must submit an activity report to Arbetsförmedlingen by the 14th of each month. This is done through their Mina sidor. Submitting the report on time and actively applying for a sufficient number of jobs are requirements for receiving compensation.
