Our mission

Akademikernas a-kassa is by far the largest a-kassa, with over 790,000 members. We help people become members and support our members in receiving the benefits they are entitled to. We carry out an important public service mission with no profit motive. The board is appointed through a democratic process at the annual general meeting.

We help people

We register members and pay out benefits. Our mission is to help people insure themselves against loss of income by becoming members and applying for benefits if they become unemployed.

We pay out benefits

As a member with us, you are not only covered by unemployment insurance – you are also entitled to professional and friendly service, fast and accurate processing, and timely payments.

160 people work with us to provide fast service and the best support

Our office is located in Stockholm. We are about 160 people, and almost all of us work with member services and case handling. The head of the office, kassaföreståndare, is Katarina Bengtson Ekström. Our board is appointed by the general meeting, and the chair of the board is traditionally the chair of Saco.

Which laws govern us?

We follow general administrative regulations on public access to information and confidentiality. In matters of benefits, we apply the act on unemployment insurance, and in matters of membership, the act on unemployment insurance funds.

Supervision of a-kassor

The Swedish Unemployment Insurance Inspectorate (IAF) supervises both our operations and those of Arbetsförmedlingen. The purpose is to ensure that we follow the rules and that the application is legally secure and efficient.
