A member organisation with a public mandate
We are a non-political, non-profit organisation. Akademikernas a-kassa carries out public authority duties, and our operations are governed by the act on unemployment insurance and the act on unemployment insurance funds. The a-kassa is led by a kassaföreståndare appointed by the board, which in turn is elected by the general meeting.
Which laws govern us?
The a-kassa is not a government agency, even though we carry out public authority duties as an important part of our work, alongside providing service and support to our members. We follow general administrative rules and regulations on public access to information and confidentiality. In matters concerning benefits, we apply the act on unemployment insurance, and in matters concerning membership, the act on unemployment insurance funds.
Supervision of a-kassor
The Swedish Unemployment Insurance Inspectorate (IAF) supervises both our operations and those of Arbetsförmedlingen. The purpose is to ensure that we follow the rules and that the application is legally secure and efficient.
