Benefits and payments

How many days you can receive benefits, how much you can get, what applies regarding waiting days and payments – and how to calculate your benefits. We also guide you on what applies if you have income insurance or need a new benefit period.

Transition period – two legal frameworks

During a transition period, two legal frameworks for a-kassa will apply simultaneously. Anyone with an ongoing benefit period as of 30 September 2025 will continue under the old regulations. All decisions made from 1 October 2025 onward will be subject to the new Unemployment Insurance Act.

Old rules – until 30 September 2025

If you have an already approved and ongoing benefit period as of 30 September 2025, the old Unemployment Insurance Act will continue to apply.

New rules – from 1 October 2025

For everyone who receives a decision on benefits on or after 1 October, the new Unemployment Insurance Act will apply.

You can receive 26,400 SEK/month for 300 days

The benefit period begins with two waiting days. After that, you can receive benefits for up to 300 days – at most 80 percent of your previous income. The maximum amount you can receive is based on a monthly income of 33,000 SEK.

Additional income insurance through your union

If you have additional income insurance through your trade union, it is based on our decision regarding unemployment benefits. You must apply for the income insurance yourself and give your consent so that they can retrieve the necessary information from Mina sidor in order to pay the correct benefits.

Payment every Thursday

Your benefits are paid out every Thursday. This requires that you have submitted your time report no later than Monday of the same week.

Sometimes mistakes happen and you may need to pay money back

It is important that you fill in your time report correctly – for example, all the hours you have worked or were unable to look for work. Incorrect information may result in you receiving benefits you are not entitled to and that you later have to pay back. We cross-check our data with, among others, Försäkringskassan and CSN, and sometimes we discover that benefits have been paid out for the same period from multiple sources.

If you have worked, you may be eligible for a new benefit period

If you have combined work and unemployment benefits and meet a new work requirement, you may be granted a new benefit period. If you do not meet the requirement, you should contact Arbetsförmedlingen for a place in a program.
