Waiting days

What is a waiting day (karensdag)? It’s a kind of deductible – two days at the beginning of your benefit period for which you do not receive any benefits. Waiting days are only deducted when you are fully unemployed and submit a time report, and they must be completed within one year. Here we explain how it works, and what applies if, for example, you have resigned from your job.

What is a waiting day?

  • A waiting day is a kind of deductible day for which you do not receive any benefits.

  • Waiting days are only deducted on days when you are fully unemployed.

  • They must be completed within a 12-month period and are only deducted once.

  • Waiting days are not counted as part of the benefit period and are always deducted at the beginning of the period.

  • Both waiting days must be completed within 365 calendar days.

Waiting days are deducted when you submit your time report

Submit your time report in “Mina sidor” for the waiting days to start counting. Both waiting days must be completed within 365 calendar days for you to be able to use your approved benefit period.

If you resign from your job

If you choose to resign from your employment, you may be disqualified for 45 benefit days. These are called disqualification days. The benefit period then begins with two waiting days. In total, you will not receive any benefits from the unemployment insurance fund (a-kassa) for 47 benefit days (just under 10 weeks).
