Compensation and payments
When you are unemployed, you can receive a maximum of SEK 27,200 per month for up to 300 days. The amount of compensation is calculated based on your previous earnings and how much of your income you have lost. The compensation period begins with a qualifying deduction equivalent to the value of two compensation days. Every 100th day, the compensation is gradually reduced. Compensation is taxable and counts toward your pension. If you have income insurance through your union, it can supplement the payments from the unemployment fund.
SEK 27,200, 300 days and 80%
Unemployment insurance covers part of the income lost when you become unemployed. At most, you can receive 80% of SEK 34,000 (SEK 27,200). To qualify for SEK 34,000, you need a total earned income of at least SEK 408,000 during the qualification period.
The compensation level depends on how many months you have been a member; 12 months of membership are required to receive 80%.
The length of the compensation period depends on how many months you have earned SEK 11,000. You may receive 300, 200, 100 or 66 days. Every 100th day, the compensation is gradually reduced.

Qualifying deduction for everyone
When you start receiving compensation from the unemployment fund, a qualifying deduction is made. It works like an excess and corresponds to the value of two compensation days. The deduction is only made when you are unemployed or report income in your monthly application, and it must be completed within one year.
Qualification period
The qualification period begins the month before you register with Arbetsförmedlingen and apply for compensation. It extends 12 months back and can be shifted further back if there are months where you earned less than SEK 11,000 and were unable to work, for example due to illness, parental leave or full-time studies.

Income insurance through your union
If you have income insurance through your union, it supplements the compensation from the unemployment fund. You need to apply for compensation from the income insurance yourself and give your consent – then they can retrieve the information they need from us to pay out the correct compensation to you.
Monthly compensation payment
Your compensation is paid monthly in arrears. Submit your monthly application no later than the 14th of the month. We pay out compensation on the fourth Thursday of the month.
Sometimes mistakes happen and you need to pay back
It’s important that you fill in your time report correctly – for example, all the hours you have worked or were unable to look for a job. Incorrect information can result in compensation you are not entitled to and may have to repay later. We coordinate our data with, among others, Försäkringskassan and CSN, and sometimes we discover that compensation has been paid out for the same period from multiple sources.
If you have worked, you may be eligible for a new compensation period
If you have combined work and unemployment compensation and meet a new income requirement, you may be eligible for a new compensation period. If you are not eligible for a new period, you should contact Arbetsförmedlingen to discuss placement in a program.
