When did you receive your decision?

Monthly application

To be able to receive compensation payments you need to submit a monthly application in My Pages. The application should be submitted no later than the 14th for the money to be paid out within the same month. You must report your work income and if there have been days when you were unable to accept work. If you have not been fully unemployed during the month, the compensation must be reduced. The monthly application must not be older than 3 months.

Report income and obstacles

When you are unemployed, you must apply for compensation every month. In your monthly application, you report any income from work, if you have been abroad, and if you have been unable to accept work due to, for example, illness or caring for a sick child. The form is available in Mina sidor and provides guidance on what information to report – if you are unsure about what to report for which month, you should call us!

Submit your application monthly and before the 14th

The monthly application must be submitted retrospectively each month. To ensure that the payment is made in the same month the application is received, it must be submitted early – no later than the 14th of the month. A monthly application must not be older than 3 months.

Remember to submit your activity report to Arbetsförmedlingen

You must submit your activity report on Arbetsförmedlingen’s website no later than the 14th of each month. In the report, you state which jobs you have applied for and other activities you have done to find employment. If the report is not submitted on time, we will receive a notification from Arbetsförmedlingen – and this may affect the amount of compensation you receive.

If something is incorrect in your monthly application

If you have submitted incorrect information in your monthly application, you should correct it as soon as possible. This is done in Mina sidor under the section “Klaga/Fråga” There, you describe what went wrong and why.

If you have received too much compensation, you will need to repay the excess amount. If you have received too little, we will pay out the missing amount.

Need help with your monthly application?

In the monthly application, you must report any income from work and whether you have been unable to accept employment. It’s important that income is reported in the correct month, and if you’re unsure how to proceed, just give us a call.

When you are unable to seek or accept work (obstacles)

  1. Days for which you have applied for sickness benefit, parental benefit, compensation for caring for a sick child (vabb), or other compensation from Försäkringskassan must be reported as “Compensation from Försäkringskassan.” You must specify how much of the day the benefit covers and which dates it applies to.

  2. If you have received sick pay from an employer, you must report it as income from work in the month it was paid.

  3. If you have been sick or cared for a child without receiving compensation, you must mark “Unable to accept work” in your monthly application.

  4. If you have participated in a labour market programme, internship, work training, or other preparatory activities through Arbetsförmedlingen, you must mark “Unable to accept work” in your monthly application.

  5. If you have been unable to accept work due to personal reasons, you must mark “Unable to accept work” in your monthly application. This applies to both weekdays and weekends.

  6. If you have not been in Sweden, you must indicate that you have been abroad and also mark “Unable to accept work” in your monthly application. This applies to both weekdays and weekends. Specify the period, country, and reason.

  7. If you are unemployed and want to take a vacation from job seeking, you must mark “Unable to accept work” in your monthly application.

Report income

  1. If you did not work at all during your first month of unemployment, you should not report any income—even if you receive wages for work performed before becoming unemployed.

However, if you worked during any part of the application month, you must report that income in your monthly application.

  2. If you have a fixed monthly salary from a part-time position or an on-call job where the salary is paid for full calendar months, the income must be reported in the month the work was performed. It does not matter when the payment is made.

  3. If you have a fixed monthly salary from a part-time position or an on-call job where the salary is paid for full calendar months, the income must be reported in the month the work was performed. It does not matter when the payment is made. Call us if you are unsure.

  4. If you are paid by the hour and have a pay period that spans two calendar months—for example, from the 16th of one month to the 15th of the next—you must report the income in the monthly application for the month in which the salary is paid.

Example: Salary for the period 16 November – 15 December is paid in December and should be reported in the monthly application for December.

  5. If you receive a predetermined amount that covers more than one calendar month, the gross total must be evenly distributed across the relevant months. Divide the gross amount by the number of months and report the same amount in each of those months.

  6. If the severance pay covers only part of a month, you should report income only for that specific period.

How to calculate Divide your established monthly income by 30 and multiply by the number of days the severance pay covers.

Example SEK 45,000 / 30 = SEK 1,500 SEK 1,500 Ă— 10 days = SEK 15,000 You report SEK 15,000 in the monthly application for the month partially covered by the severance pay.

  7. If you are a foster parent, the income reported to Skatteverket for the assignment should normally be reported in the monthly application. Exceptions apply for approved secondary employment.

  8. If you are a caregiver for a relative, the income reported to Skatteverket for the assignment should normally be included in your monthly application. Exceptions apply for approved secondary employment.

  9. If you are an elected official, the income reported to Skatteverket for the assignment should normally be included in your monthly application. Exceptions apply for approved secondary employment.

  10. If you have a position of trust or an elected assignment, the income reported to Skatteverket for the assignment should normally be included in your monthly application. Exceptions apply for approved secondary employment.

  11. If you invoice through a self-employment company, such as Frilans Finans or Cool Company, the unemployment fund (a-kassa) will assess whether the work is more similar to employment or self-employment.

If the work is considered employment, you must report the income. If it is considered self-employment, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits and must contact us before starting the assignment to find out what applies.

  12. Hobby Having a hobby such as crafts, artistic activities, or other leisure pursuits does not normally affect your right to unemployment benefits.

However, if you produce items and sell them, or make deductions in your tax return for materials and expenses related to the activity, it is considered self-employment and you are not entitled to benefits. Exception: if you have received a decision from us stating that the hobby is an approved secondary employment.

  13. Internships should normally be reported as “Unable to accept work” in the monthly application.

  14. If the work is considered employment, you must report the income. If the income is a predetermined amount for an assignment that spans several months, it should be evenly distributed across the months during which the assignment takes place (the total amount divided by the number of calendar months the assignment covers).

If the work is considered self-employment, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits and must contact us before starting the assignment to find out what applies.

  15. Voluntary work in a nonprofit organization does not prevent you from receiving unemployment benefits. However, if your involvement prevents you from accepting work, you must mark “Unable to accept work” in your monthly application.
