Pension

You can remain a member of a-kassan until you turn 66 years old (67 years starting in 2026). If you are younger and receive pension payments while unemployed, these payments must be coordinated. This means that your a-kassa will be reduced if you receive national pension or, for example, occupational pension. Coordination does not happen automatically, so you must send your pension decision to us.

Membership and compensation end automatically at 66

One can be a member of a-kassa up to and including the month before turning 66 years old. At that point, the membership in a-kassa ends automatically. On January 1, 2026, the age limit changes to 67 years, and thereafter it will follow the target retirement age.

If you want to end your membership before 66

If you are unemployed when the membership ends, the right to compensation ends at the same time. And if you receive activity support from Försäkringskassan, it will be reduced if you end your membership in a-kassa.

If you retire before the age of 66, you must personally end your membership in a-kassa. The termination must be in writing, and the easiest way is to fill out a withdrawal form in Mitt medlemskap.

Pension must be coordinated if payments are received

When unemployed and receiving a-kassa, the unemployment compensation must be reduced by the amount of pension received. Pension in this context refers to occupational pension, income pension, premium pension, and in some cases supplementary pension.

Upload your pension decision

To coordinate payments for those entitled to pension or pension-like compensation, we need a copy of the pension decision. You must also immediately report any changes to the pension amount. Upload the pension decision in Mina sidor or send it by post.

Self-employed individuals’ pension savings count as occupational pension

If you are self-employed and have taken out a private pension insurance and deducted it in the company’s tax declaration, the pension is considered an occupational pension. It must then be coordinated with a-kassa.

Pension affects compensation

The total compensation (pension plus a-kassa) may not exceed the amount one is entitled to from a-kassa. This means that if you receive a pension of 27,200 SEK or more, you are not entitled to any compensation. Once you begin drawing your pension, the amount must be coordinated with the compensation.

Private pension does not affect compensation

If you have a private pension insurance that you have paid for without any support from an employer, it does not affect your right to unemployment compensation regardless of when you begin drawing the pension.

Payments from transition insurance

If you receive supplementary payments while unemployed from, for example, Trygghetsstiftelsen or Trygghetsrådet, different compensation levels apply. In such cases, it is not a-kassa but the paying organization that coordinates the compensation.
