Job seeking in Sweden

To be eligible for compensation from the unemployment fund, you must be in Sweden, be unemployed, and actively seeking work. This means regularly applying for jobs and following the instructions from the Public Employment Service. It is a basic condition of the unemployment insurance and important to ensure that the compensation is not affected.

This is required of you

You must:

  • Be registered with Arbetsförmedlingen as a job seeker.

  • Be prepared to accept a job immediately if offered one.

  • Actively apply for jobs every week and document your efforts.

  • Submit an activity report to the Arbetsförmedlingen month.

  • Participate in the meetings, interviews, or activities offered by Arbetsförmedlingen.

What does it mean to "actively seek work"?

You must apply for jobs that match your education, experience, and work capacity – but also be open to other types of work. The plan established by Arbetsförmedlingen for you will indicate the minimum number of jobs you need to apply for each month. In addition, you must show that you are making various efforts to obtain employment.

Here are some examples of what counts as actively seeking work:

  • Apply for jobs within your professional field and other areas where you are able to work.

  • Upload or update your profile and CV on job websites.

  • Participate in job fairs, interviews, or meetings that may lead to employment.

  • Follow up on your job applications.

  • Contact employers directly to express interest in working there.
