Compensation period

The compensation period from the unemployment fund can be 300, 200, 100 or 66 days. The length is determined by how long you have worked before becoming unemployed. The period always begins with a qualifying deduction corresponding to the value of two compensation days. Compensation is paid monthly in arrears. If there is a break in the compensation period, you can continue on the same period as long as you apply for compensation again within one year.

Months with income determine the length of the compensation period

The length of the compensation period depends on how many months during the qualification period you have earned at least SEK 11,000 – the more months with income, the longer the period. Salary and salary supplements are included in the monthly amount of SEK 11,000, for example compensation for inconvenient working hours, company car and lunch benefits.

This is the qualification period

The qualification period begins the month before you register with Arbetsförmedlingen and apply for unemployment compensation. It extends a total of 12 months back in time. If there are months during that period where you earned less than SEK 11,000 and were unable to work due to, for example, illness, care of a sick child or full-time studies, the qualification period can be extended.

300 days at most – 66 at minimum

A compensation period can consist of 300, 200, 100 or 66 days, and the length depends on your income during the qualification period and whether you meet the income requirement through the main or alternative rule.

To receive 300 days of compensation, you must have earned at least SEK 11,000 in 11 months or more. For 200 days, 8–10 months are required, and for a compensation period of 100 days, you need 4–7 months with an income of at least SEK 11,000. If you meet the income requirement through the alternative rule, the period is 66 days.

Qualifying deduction for everyone

When you start receiving compensation from the unemployment fund, a qualifying deduction is made. It works like an excess and corresponds to the value of two compensation days. The deduction is only made when you are unemployed or report income in your monthly application, and it must be completed within one year.

Break in compensation. Same period or new?

  • If your unemployment break is shorter than twelve months and you still have days left in your previous compensation period, you continue on the same period you previously started.

  • If the break from compensation is longer than twelve months, whether you continue on the same period or need to meet the requirements again depends on the reason for the break. To continue on the same period, the break must consist of disregarded time, such as illness or parental leave.

14 months if you work

If you combine compensation and work, you are entitled to compensation for lost income. You have the right to combine work and unemployment compensation for up to 14 months.

If the days run out

When there are 50 days left in the period, we check whether you have met a new income requirement so that you can receive a new compensation period. If not, you should contact the Public Employment Service for a possible placement in a labor market program. It is important to remain a member with us, otherwise the compensation is reduced if you participate in a program.
